Heroes In My Eye

Rip, Hick, Buck and Pranks,
Sons of Jim and Bell,
They are the heroes in my eye,
I loved the stories they could tell.
Cowboys of the old school type,
These four could top a crowd.
Each one has touched my life for good,
Of them I sure am proud.

Rip is Russel, the first one to be born,
A Soldier, A Cowboy, A Rancher,
His life, sometimes forlorn.
He taught me many a lesson,
Of how to stand up tall.
He stood me up and made me bounce back,
From many a fall.
He said, "Be just as tough as pleases you,
But never be mean or small."
He showed me how to train my horse,
To come when I would call.

Hick was next, Jim, James, or Harold his true name,
Just as tough as a hickory stick,
Therefore his rare "Nickname",
A red headed scrapper,
With eyes of flashing blue,
So much, so much he taught me.
I love him, oh so true.
He taught me life was better
if you learned what e'rr you had,
To look for good in everyone,
and overlook the bad.
He knew me well, and taught me so much,
since I was just a lad.
To me he stood above the crowd,
I'm proud to call him "DAD".

Buck is Doyle, the third son to be born,
A Cowboy's cowboy, most would say.
All day from early morn,
Laughter out of injury, he has a special nack,
to take the misery out of life,
and bring some laughter back.
He has a way, expect the best,
from horses, folks and boys.
His love of life and family,
and livestock his real toys.

Pranks is Vonal, the youngest of the four,
He lived up to his knickname,
that and so much more.
He'll make the pretty music,
and sing a pretty song.
He'll make you want to dance and laugh,
and join a happy throng.
He's helped me through some troubled times,
that and so much more.
He's done so much to shape my life,
him, and these GREAT four.
